Using the Shim Tool on the Heystack One
1. This is the shim you received with your Heystack One.

2. The function of the shim is to create a level surface for phones with camera lenses or cases that protrude, resulting in an uneven surface.
An example of this is pictured below.

3. The shim is to be placed on top of the device.

4. Verify Phone Stability and Leveling
If used correctly, your phone should be level and stable, ready to capture card images and upload them to Heystack.

If the phone is stable and level, proceed with capturing card images and uploading them to Heystack.
5. Troubleshooting Tips
Below is an example of a card image where a shim was not used. You can see a slight tilt, most notably on the top edge of the card.
If the phone still wobbles or is uneven, re-check positioning of the shim — ensure it is seated properly on the device before placing the phone.
Make sure the phone is fully resting on the shim (not tilted) before imaging.
Use the shim every time a phone’s case or lens causes unevenness — consistency ensures image quality and protects the device from unstable placement.

Below is an example of a card image where a shim was used. The card is level and all edges are straight.
